Undeniably the best gymnast in the history of the sport, Simone Biles, broke a 90-year record by becoming the first American gymnast, woman or man, to win eight national all-around titles. She’s the oldest woman to ever win the event. She is 26 years old.
After a two year hiatus from the sport, she pulled this off, calm, centered and insanely competitive, just weeks after her return.
Having been a gymnast myself, I watch her in complete awe...her skills, her precision, strength, and poise. And I loved that she was keeping her goals to herself, protecting her mental health with wisdom and grace.
“Personal goals and stuff, I think sometimes it’s OK to keep it to our self, just so that nobody can throw it in your face — ‘Oh well, this was your goal and you didn’t hit it,’” Biles said after the competition. “I’m kind of at the age where it’s like, yo, just let me be at peace. So, one thing at a time.”
Some may think 26 isn't old, but this woman is wise beyond her years.
